Given the current stand on Farm Tanks across Australia and New Zealand, with tripods ruled out (in many states and regions) because of their hazardous set up and a series of unfortunately incidences with re-fuellers injuring themselves when trying to fill up such tanks, we have done some modifying and developing and come up with the Fuelchief Fortis farm tanks. These are what the agri industry have been looking for to combat this constant issue of not only health and safety, but fuel theft.
To ensure that we are providing a tank that meets compliance standards (eg; WorkSafe) we have engaged with an external engineer for conducting the following to ensure our tanks meet health and safety standards. The WorkSafe Instrument that the overfill test is a part of is the: Polyethylene Above Ground Stationary Tanks for Diesel Fuel Safe Work Instrument 2017.
The Overflow test is if the final test in a series 4 x intensive tests (including the polymer test, impact strength test, integral secondary containment system deformation test) involved to ensure the design and construction of the said tanks meet the WorkSafe Instrument.
According to WorkSafe these are the exact test requirements as stated in the document:
24 Integral secondary containment system overflow test (1) A PCBU who constructs a tank must ensure that, in addition to the relevant overflow tests specified in BS EN 13341, the integral secondary containment system is tested according to the following procedure: (a) assemble the tank and its integral secondary containment system, and cover: (b) fill the tank with a volume of water at ambient temperature that equates to 110% of the water capacity of the tank at a rate of between 380 L and 420 L per minute through a 50 mm diameter hose connected through the tank fitting: (c) allow overflowing water to pass through the tank vent into its integral secondary containment system: (d) no water must escape from the integral secondary containment system.
Along with the above are tank markings, modified separation distances and installation requirements (which you can read more about in the Work Instrument document above).
From the images and video below, along with successfully passing the remaining tests, the Fuelchief Fortis Farm Tank is now compliant to WorkSafe standards. The particular overflow test shows that once capacity had gone above required, the contents of the liquid would move to the secondary bund (the space between the inner and outer tank), therefore capturing any diesel and eliminating any risk to the environment. The double skinned tank used to test the WorSafe Instrument was the 1,500L tank, this also comes in a 1,000L option too. Find out more about our complaint farm tank tank here.
